KU Food Program

*2018 USDA Turnip the Beet Gold Award Winner*

We know freshly prepared, nutritious food is key to childhood growth and development. The majority of our students eat most of their daily meals in our school, and all Kids Unlimited Academy students are eligible for free breakfast, lunch and dinner — cooked from scratch using fresh ingredients in our on-site kitchen. Meals additionally are available during summer break. Our nationally recognized, award-winning food program also incorporates nutrition education and gardening instruction into curricula and enrichment activities.

“When kids receive meals they love, it makes them happy, an experience that promotes positive thinking, better kid-to-kid relationships and may even reduce conflicts … Fresh ingredients provide denser amounts of nutrients than processed or premade foods. To get enough nutrition into those still-developing brains and bodies, we design it to taste and look appealing. My recipe for success is: nutrition + flavor = health!” — Chef Nathan

Our Culinary Program

Kids Unlimited recognizes the importance of healthy food. It is our priority to incorporate nutrition education, offer an incredible food program and include garden education in to daily programming and curriculum. Students who participate in the culinary arts program learn about where food comes from, how to prepare it, and how to present their product. Many students develop a passion for cooking and learn culinary arts skills that can be implemented at home or in future employment.

Our Garden Program

Kids Unlimited recognizes the importance of healthy food. At Kids Unlimited it is a priority to incorporate nutrition education, offer an incredible food program and include garden education into programming and curriculum.

“Many of our kids suffer from hunger and often don’t have access to proper nutrition outside of school. We are committed to providing access and education. This is a prestigious award, and we are all proud of the culinary team.” – Executive Director Tom Cole
